Immediately upon entering our program and before being sent to any worksite, all student employees receive training in a variety of entry-level skills. They develop foundational level knowledge in areas such as workplace literacy, productivity and time management, organizational habits, word processing, spreadsheets and data analysis, ethical expectations, and customer service. While on the job, student employees continue to build upon these foundations with more specific training relative to their job responsibilities and the needs of the business.
Our HR staff monitors the students' performance level at work through phone calls to the supervisor, visits to the worksite and conferences with students in our offices on campus. These visits and conversations help us to determine what types of ongoing training may be needed for success on the job. When necessary, we can collaborate with instructors here on campus to provide such training ourselves.
For older students who are already competent and experienced after one or more years on the job, we provide more advanced training in areas such as customer service, problem solving, advancing your skill sets, and building upon relationships with supervisors and co-workers. All of our student employees annually participate in training workshops on leadership, goal setting and planning, and issues of diversity in the workplace.
Our initial and ongoing training programs are coordinated by our skilled campus instructors utilizing the generous contributions of guest presenters from among our corporate partners.
