“To be entrusted with the teaching of the young is a
great gift and grace of God.”
St. John Baptiste de La Salle
Dear Friends of San Miguel,
It is an honor to accept the appointment of President of San Miguel High School. With over twenty years of experience as a high school teacher and administrator, I know the impact that education can have on young people and their home communities. I am truly humbled by this opportunity to come back to the city of Tucson and serve the students and families of San Miguel.
My commitment to educating under resourced youth began eight years ago when I first started working for the Cristo Rey Network of schools. This national network of thirty-two high schools exists to provide a college and career preparatory education to urban youth with limited educational opportunities. San Miguel High School is proud to be a part of this network and to carry on St. John Baptiste de La Salle’s mission to provide a human and Christian education to youth, regardless of their income or zip code.
At San Miguel we believe that a quality education is the best pathway out of poverty. Through a unique combination of college-preparatory curricula and a practical work-study program, we’re helping under resourced students unleash their full potential in high school, college, and a future career. Across the country thousands of Cristo Rey students and alumni are proving that this model works, and I feel blessed to be a part of this wonderful mission to prepare San Miguel students for bright futures.
